The Nollywood's Venom~2~

It is quite appalling to know that there is no strict censorship imposed on such movies.Movies meant only for adults have found their way into the hands of children, who get infected with the concealed viruses.Movie renters and sellers are more interested in the money they make more than the impact such movies are making in the society.Producers, directors and distributors are unable to control the censorship of nigerian movies. Even foreign movies which are mostly pornographic have been freely circulated without any effort to checkmate them.Imagine where very little children of primary school age are caught possessing pornographic materials especially the popular blue films and sex magazines.Parents and clerics now have this menace to battle in youths and children. This behaviour in children must have emanated from the habit of watching our locally made home videos, mostly junks and filled with obscene scenes. In his book,'Reflections',Adepoju Paul said that he feared watchin

The Nollywood's Venom~1~

In recent years, the nascent Nigerian film industry has grown rapidly to become the 2nd largest film producing industry in the world after the prolific Bollywood of India and before the renowned Hollywood in the United States. With production of over fifty(50) movie titles per week,Nollywood,as the Nigerian film industry has come to be known and is beginning to command global attention by its size and work rate and it is increasingly seen as one of Nigeria's positive cultural contributions to the international community. The industry has not only transformed the way Nigerians see themselves,it has also become one of the major sources of employment in the country with over 5,000 guild members in 2004.However,the industry needs encouragement to ensure sustainable growth and both foreign and local film industry experts agree that there is an urgent need to expose Nollywood to more technical depth and professionalism. There is also a need for scholarly examination of this phenomenon, and th

The weather does not seek permission to change whenever it wishes to do so.The weather is usually known for being clement now and in the next moment, inclement. It could be mild in the morning, harsh in the afternoon and cold or rainy at night, just as it wishes.Sometimes,it is pleasant and sometimes very unpleasant, depending on the area, time and season.Nowadays, even experts find it difficult to predict accurately, the changes in weather and climate. The world is faced with this monster christened 'climate change.'It is this same poor weather and bad climate that allegedly took the lives of the polish president, his wife and 96 others. It is currently restricting air travels in europe. The ignorance of the fate of the climate in nearest future has become a thorn in the flesh of world leaders.Simply put,the weather and climate are very fickle. Football, unlike other sporting activities has become the major sporting interest for millions of people all over the world with children, youths a

This Kind God!(A Surprising Return)

On that fateful day, inside the auditorium of the prestigious Evan Enwerem University(formerly known as Imo State University) Owerri, just after the ceremony of my handover as the General Secretary of Jccf(Joint Christian Campus Fellowship),my phone rang.Guess who called! Far beyond my widest imagination,it turned out to be the driver of the bus I boarded to Aba some days back. Wonders, they say, shall never end.I recently experienced a wonderous miracle and that I want to share.I'm not just happy about the whole thing,I also learnt alot. After my exams in last year's December,I've been on vacation. When we were recalled,I made arrangements in preparation for my return. We were to change environment and needed to put things in order there.I became a traveller, constantly on the road.I was revolving around Aba,Owerri and Orlu.It was within that period that I encountered and seriously gave thought to the numerous legal and illegal check-points on our over 220,000km road network,of w

What You Need To Know About Acid Rain

Late last month, there was panic among Nigerians,as an sms was circulated that there was a possibility of an acid rain between 20 and 28 March, which may cause skin cancer if one is exposed to it.The information was attributed to National Aeronautics and Space Administration(NASA) in the United States of America.Though there was panic in some areas of Lagos and Port Harcourt,as heavens opened its bowels, releasing what people feared was the rumoured acid rain, within the said period in March, there has not been any form of rain in the eastern region of the country, where I reside. Some people have refused to accept the information.Others have so much dreaded the rain.Even a meteorologist at the NASA,an independent agency of the United States government responsible for aviation and spaceflight, described the reports that acid rain will fall as untrue and false.Irrespective of these controversies, there seems to be the reality of the existence of the much dreaded acid rain. Acid rain is a popul

Etiquettes And Manners-The Introduction

Perturbed by the moral and habitual decadence of people, both in the church,on the streets,in our citadels of learning, miscellaneous institutions and other facets of our wider society,I want to begin a serial expository and comprehensive dissection of some of the areas, where alot should be done to instil discipline in people and at the same time improving the status and image of our nation locally and in the international community. When this is done we'll be happier and must have made our immediate society, our desired haven. Etiquette is a code of behaviour that delineates expectations for social behaviour according to contemporary conventional norms within a society, social class, tribe, nation or group. 'Etiquettes and manners' will address some daily bad practices that are products of our sincere ignorance. It will carefully, without reservation, expose different virtues that should be cultivated by any sane person for a better life. Etiquette tells one which fork to use.Manner

Reflection:Good Friday

Read Matthew 27:32-56. He Was Crucified. Today is Good Friday and we need to remind ourselves of what Jesus went through in obedience to the Father's will.He bore both physical and mental torture for us.The physical torture culminated in him being nailed to the cross but the mental torture continued. The greatest of these was to experience separation from the Father for the first time(vs. 46).Why? See Isaiah 52:12 and Habakkuk 1:13a. In human eyes, the events of today would have made it the worst day of history, yet it is rightly called 'Good Friday'.This is because the sacrifice made for us by Jesus on that day turned evil into good for all mankind.God,in his great love, took the most costly initiative to reconcile the world to himself. As we celebrate another Good Friday, let us express our gratitude to God for the price our Lord paid to save us from death and damnation. For Further Study: Study the various groups of people around the cross and note the role each played in th
