The Nollywood's Venom~2~

It is quite appalling to know that there is no strict censorship imposed on such movies.Movies meant only for adults have found their way into the hands of children, who get infected with the concealed viruses.Movie renters and sellers are more interested in the money they make more than the impact such movies are making in the society.Producers, directors and distributors are unable to control the censorship of nigerian movies.

Even foreign movies which are mostly pornographic have been freely circulated without any effort to checkmate them.Imagine where very little children of primary school age are caught possessing pornographic materials especially the popular blue films and sex magazines.Parents and clerics now have this menace to battle in youths and children. This behaviour in children must have emanated from the habit of watching our locally made home videos, mostly junks and filled with obscene scenes.

In his book,'Reflections',Adepoju Paul said that he feared watching nigerian movies because they could reduce ones IQ.Instead of sitting down to study their books,Youths make out more time for watching home videos even he it means staying awake late into the night.Little wonder their performances are very bad. They then resort to examination malpractice, seeking effortless shortcuts to success.

Our movies are usually centred on the so-called 'love' and are passed to the wrong eyes for consumption. Our inability to improve and delve into other relevant, educative themes has worsened the situation.Nollywood has rather preferred mass production to the quality of the products.

It is pertinent to note that our inability to produce quality and educative films, together with possessing the ability to censor them accordingly, will only corrupt more, the society. The message for the populace can be passed across to them without contaminating our holy eyes and minds. The actors and actresses that feature in our movies should be well educated on their roles. The government and other regulatory agencies should arise to regulate whatever goes on in the movie industry for the benefit of those that watch them.
