Faithful Men Wanted !!

From all indications,it is becoming clearer to Nigerians that most famous people that we thought, served us well were mere 'criminals' that knew how best to manage their crimes so that it will remain perpetually hidden from the populace.Apart from the few cases of false allegations and very few innocent ones, most of our political office holders tend to become saints while in office but suddenly become EFCC candidates after serving.Their is usually a familiar tendency of starting to comb every corner of the nation in search of these men and women that were highly respected by the masses, maybe due to the few projects they were able to carry out while in office.

Sometime last year,we heard that some honourable members of a particular state's house of assembly in this nation, had to take oaths of allegiance standing completely nude.We are in a nation where many evil things are perpetrated by the so-called politicians, who seek by all means, political positions even if it means assassinating others, consulting native doctors, and many other unethical practices.Kidnapping is not left out.Highly placed individuals in the opposition camps are abducted in an effort to settle scores.Rumours and news of the barbaric acts of some of these desperate politicians are always circulating.

The younger generation has so much followed after the wrong steps of our ancestors.Hardly will you see young men and women whose notions and views about political matters are healthy enough for the needed change in our polity.Statistics show that majority of them strongly believe in taking their own share of the national cake when given opportunity, irrespective of the means. Some of them think that public service is all about gathering as much money as possible for themselves and their unborn generations. The unborn generation is made to partake in their atrocities. What a misnomer!

Ibori is currently reaping what he sowed while in office.Others were just lucky to have their cases wrongly squashed with the help of large Ghana-must-go bags. Some cases are still incubating just because the immunity clause in our cover-me-up constitution is temporarily shielding them. The review and amendment of our constitution is nothing to write home about, having found itself in the hands of those with selfish interests and those of their bosses, which has succeeded in robbing us of justice and fairness meant to be introduced by a good constitution. The status quo will be maintained, with retarded growth,if nothing is done to bring in trustworthy people(like me) into such matters of great importance.

Most of our anti-crime agencies have become a platform for political vendetta.'Do me I do you,God no go vex!',has become their mantra of defence.I noticed that most politicians tend to be apprehensive whenever the heads of those agencies are being appointed. This being as a result of one or two things they must have done against such people. Some of these agencies have lost focus.Infact, the reason behind their institution is being defeated.Mrs Clinton once condemned their inactivity but ended up receiving condemnation from our tactless leaders. There is the need to consider our shortcomings by bringing in measures that will re-inforce these agencies.

Tunde Idiagbon,Oby Ezekwesili,Dan Onwukwe,Francis Akanu Ibiam and a few others are some of our unsung heroes with unswerving loyalty and integrity. They were not respected because of their fat bank accounts nor their political prowess, but were conspicuously unique due to their faithfulness and ability to say 'No' to corruption, despite the intimidating multitude of active partakers.Unfortunately, only few people proved themselves to be faithful.Majority of those in power are direct opposites.Unlike these faithful men, dictators, fraudsters and the likes have always been our choices during elections.I wonder why it has to be so.Does it mean that there are no more faithful men and women?Does it mean that we have lost our ability to differentiate good from bad?Have we all been bewitched?God forbid!Does it also mean that we don't know what we want?Is someone with me?Someone should answer me please. What! What! What is the matter with us?I really want to know.

Next year,we should be getting new leaders by way of election.2011 election is nearer than we expect it.We've roughly a year,if not less than that to make all necessary arrangements needed for the conduction of a credible election in this country. The desire of any good nigerian is to see good leadership borne from an election that is free and fair.

The report of the Uwais-led electoral reform panel should never be swept under the carpet for any reason. It'll be wise for Mr Goodluck and his men to re-visit the report and at the same time make sure that every necessary procedure is strictly followed, so as to give the expectant Nigerians, good leaders come next year.

Moreso, the electorates should be properly guided in the choice of whom to vote. Many wolves are presently declaring their interest to us.This they do via posters, television, radio, internet(on social networking sites) and so on.Some even have enough money to share as they do their campaign. With their bogus manifestos, they make promises of things that can never be realised. What more?

To make the election transparent, the press should be given the freedom of information.I'll not fail to say that we need God in all these and that we'll do by our heart-felt prayers...But we can do it.
